Direct Delivery From The Vessel

What is the concept of a direct shipment?

A direct shipment is one that travels directly from the starting point to the final destination.

A vessel does not need to pause at an intermediate port to unload. The goods are transported directly from the origin to the destination port.

What are the advantages of shipping directly?

A direct shipment is one that travels directly from the starting point to the final destination.

A vessel does not need to pause at an intermediate port to unload. The goods are transported directly from the origin to the destination port.

Saving your precious time:
Direct delivery, like traveling as a passenger on a commercial plane, reduces travel time by eliminating the need to offload at an intermediate spot. For example, if cargo is transported directly from India to the United States East Coast, the transit time could be about 24 days. However, if the goods are transported as a transshipment between two Indian cities (for example, from Chennai to New Delhi) and then must wait for another vessel before being transported to the United States, transit time could take up to 30 days.

Avoid Delays:
When shipping cargo via transshipment, you’ll notice that you’re more vulnerable to delays. This is usually due to the fact that offloading a container and then loading it into another vessel requires more time. Receiving and unloading vessels at the port can be delayed if a port is congested at a given time (such as during shipping peak season). There’s also the possibility that a vessel will skip a transshipment port’s cut-off time. Further delays will occur if the first vessel arrives too late to fulfill the offloading deadline.
